Tuesday 20 March 2018
Beth Barai joined Boston West Hospital straight after leaving school. Young and keen to learn, Beth started her Clinical Healthcare Support Apprenticeship, an ideal way to begin a rewarding career.
Beth found the course interesting and over the course of her educational year she worked her way through each online module.
The diverse course covers a wide range of job roles in hospitals and clinical healthcare settings. It gave Beth insight into areas including: personal development, communication and creating positive impressions, health and safety, infection control, equality and diversity, safeguarding, handling information and duty of care.
Through a mixture of workplace observation, portfolio building and online exams, Beth met her targets and gained her Level 2 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support from North Hertfordshire College.
In Beth’s role as a Health Care Assistant (HCA) for Outpatients and Recovery and, in working in Administration and on the Front Desk, she has been able to be hands on in her learning and has put into practice everything she has learnt.
Beth gained all the support she needed from Boston West Hospital, including a brilliant mentor called Sam who as a fellow HCA could offer invaluable advice and support whenever needed.
“I feel so lucky to work as a HCA at Boston West Hospital in such great team. Everyone has been so supportive in my learning. I am grateful for the valuable training programme and for the opportunity to learn so much about healthcare support,” said Beth “I enjoy work-based learning and I hope to be able to continue my professional development.”
